The Solo Designer
January 27, 2025Hey there đź‘‹
It's been a while, how's 2025 treating you so far? I've already been fortunate to visit Las Vegas for the first time for a team offsite. I'm now back in gloomy Sweden longing for spring...
In today's post, I'm taking you behind the scenes of my role as the first and only designer at Summer Health. While many aspire to join established design teams, there's a unique thrill (and challenge) in being a startup's sole designer. I'll share my experiences juggling multiple responsibilities, from product design to marketing, and how I've learned to prioritize what truly matters.
If you've ever wondered what it's like to shape a product from the ground up or how to manage being the only designer in a growing company, this post is for you. I'll also touch on some valuable lessons I've learned about user research, remote work, and the importance of knowing when to push for perfection versus when to be pragmatic.
3 things I love lately
- "We realize that naming a design company “Design Business Company” is like naming a dog “Dog” or a cat “Jerk.” But it makes good sense to us because it describes what we do—honestly."
- About the Design Business Company - AI eats the world
- I (still) don’t know what “craft” means
Talk again soon!
